Preparing for your trip to Phuket

  • Entering Phuket by air from approved countries/ territories where travellers must have stayed for 21 days or more (except Thais and foreign residents)
  • Fully vaccinated against Covid-19 with a vaccine approved by Thai FDA/ Thai Ministry of Health no less than 14 days before departure. Those that were previously infected within 3 months must have received 1 dose of an approved vaccine at least 14 days before travel and a medical certificate of recovery. Children under 12 years and are traveling with parents/guardian are eligible without proof of vaccination.
  • Must have a medical certificate with an RT-PCR lab result indicating that Covid-19 is not detected issued no more than 72 hours prior to travelling (all travellers).
  • Must have an insurance policy with a minimum coverage of USD 50,000 throughout the entire duration of stay.
  • Must have a paid SHA+ reservation confirmation for 1-night stay.

General Information

Who is eligible for travel into Thailand as of 1 November 2021?

All fully vaccinated visitors from low-risk countries and territories announced by the Ministry of Public Health. Thais and foreign residents who travel from countries on the list must stay one night in a SHA+ or alternative quarantine hotel to take and RT-PCR test and wait for the results.

What is the list of accepted vaccines for entering Phuket?

The below is the list of vaccines approved by WHO and Thai FDA:
• CoronoVac (Sinovac), AstraZeneca, Pfizer – BIONTECH, COVIDSHIELD, Janssen (Johnson & Johnson), Moderna, COVILO (Sinopharm), and Sputnik V
The final dose of the vaccine must be received no less than 14 days prior to departure to Phuket.

Am I allowed to travel around the country?

Fully vaccinated visitors on the list of low-risk countries and territories can travel anywhere in Thailand once they pass the first RT-PCR test on the day of arrival.

What if the country I travelling from is not on the list but I am already fully vaccinated?

Fully vaccinated travellers from countries not on the list of low-risk countries must stay in SHA+ hotels for 7 nights in a Sandbox area before travelling to other parts of Thailand once their second Covid-19 test is negative.

Are unvaccinated travellers allowed to enter Thailand?

Yes, however they are required to stay in an Alternative Quarantine hotel for 10 nights and need to pass a second Covid-19 test before travelling to other parts of Thailand.

Requirements of Entering

What are the requirements of entering?

Fully vaccinated travellers are required to be tested negative for Covid-19 72 hours before arrival in Phuket. Travellers are required to be travelling from countries designated as medium-low risk and needs to be vaccination for more than 15 days prior to departure and be able to provide a vaccination certificate.

All travellers entering Phuket will be required to book a stay in a SHA Plus+ hotel. Travellers must spend one night in Phuket before being able to travel to the rest of Thailand.

What documents are required for entering Phuket?

International travellers need to apply for a Thailand Pass and have a valid visa or an eligibility to use the Thailand visa exemption. The QR code on your Thailand Pass will be required when entering Thailand.

What are the requirements for families traveling with children?

Children under 12 years can enter the kingdom without vaccination. However, they are require to have a RT-PCR test 72 hours prior to departure from their home country. For the Exemption from Quarantine scheme, everyone aged 12 or over must submit an individual registration through Thailand Pass. Children aged under 12 can be added into their parents’ registration under the section Personal Information.

Making a Hotel Reservation

Can a traveller stay in any accommodation during the first 7 nights?

It is mandatory that accommodation is booked in a SHA Plus+ hotel for the first 7 nights in Phuket. Residing in a private residence is not allowed on the first 7 nights for Covid-19 control purposes.

What are the steps of booking an accommodation?

Travellers can book their SHA Plus+ accommodation at any valid channels. However, once you have made your reservation, it is required to advise the hotel, tour operator, or OTA that you are traveling as part of the Phuket Sandbox scheme. The hotel will then enter your booking details to the SHABA authentication system, and you will then receive a QR code and reference number required for application of your COE. Please note that no other forms of confirmation of reservation will be accepted.

What documents are require for applying for the COE?

1. Passport
2. Certificate of Vaccination and its Englsh translation if your certificate is not in English or Thai. Note that your second dose must be at least 14 days prior to departure
3. Health insurance with a minimum coverage of USD 100,000
4. Air ticket
5. SHABA Confirmation, consisting of a QR code and reference number (requested through the hotel once you have made a reservation in a SHA Plus hotel)
6. Receipt of a prepaid Covid-19 test for the first 7 days of your stay in Phuket (Reservations can be made at www.thailandpsas.com)

During Your Stay

Am I allowed to travel around Phuket after I arrive to the resort on the first day?

Travellers must remain in their room until they receive first negative test result comes out. It should take around 6-8 hours after your test at Phuket International Airport.

What happens if a traveller is tested positive for Covid-19 during their time in Phuket?

If travellers are tested positive for Covid-19, they will be transported to a hospital for treatment. Any accompanying children will need to stay in the hospital as well. The Department of Health, Phuket will investigate your movements and notify and isolate those who have been in direct contact with you since your arrival.

Leaving Phuket

Do I need to prepare any documents if I want to travel elsewhere in Thailand?

After travellers have spent 1 night in Phuket, you are free to go anywhere in Thailand, but you must follow each province’s restrictions which are subject to change. The resort your are staying at will issue a release form for you which will be used when departing the province.
